This is a lovely complete original death plaque group which includes his queen Mary tin and British War Medal ("Squeak") and Victory Medal ("Wilfred") both which are named to him .All of the items which is in undamaged condition still there nice shiny original colours with all of its markings clear to see. They come complete with pages of information on the soldier
Tragically, Lieutenant Gardner's war did not end when the Armistice was signed on November 11, 1918. Just four days later, on 15th November 1918, he lost his life at the tender age of 23.
Because he died at home in Scotland just as the global conflict paused, historical context strongly points to him succumbing to the devastating 1918 Influenza Pandemic ('The Spanish Flu'), which reached its absolute lethal peak in military camps and transit depots during that exact week in November.
