Cylinder head and valve section from a Bristol mercury engine cylinder assembly from RAF Blenheim number GB-X T1895 shot down 1st March 1941 by German night ace,crashed at Groningen in Holland
This is a Cylinder head and valve section from a Bristol mercury engine cylinder assembly which is a large heavy lump of engine which has been cut away from the larger engine.
The part is damaged from the impact of the crash with some large dents and impact damage it has ripped of the aircraft during the crash and is a large size at 10 inches wide by 8 inches tall when on end. The part has all of its original colours with no maker markings that can be seen it has been very well cleaned it is in fantastic condition for a recovered part which has actually come up very well and is perfect for display or any collection and a rare one for the collection. The part comes with 2xA5 laminated information cards with pictures.
The part comes from RAF Blenheim of 105 squadron number GB-X T1895 was on a mission to bomb the port of Wilhelmshaven in Germany. The bomber was on the return journey on the 1st March 1941 when it was intercepted 2.58am by German night fighter ace Paul Gildner in his Messerschmitt 110 who shot down the bomber, which crashed at Oosterhogebrug which is 5km East of Groningen in the Netherlands.
Gildner was flying a Messerschmitt Bf 110 (G9+HM) from Leeuwarden airfield, operating with 4./NJG 1.
The Combat: Gildner's cannons and machine guns scored a direct hit between the Blenheim's cockpit and dorsal turret, triggering a massive explosion

Pilot: Sgt. John Stewart Hardman Heape (RAFVR) — Survived, taken Prisoner of War (PoW).
Observer: Sgt. Sylvester Jones (RAFVR) — Killed in action.
Wireless Operator / Air Gunner: Sgt. John Bimson (RAFVR) — Killed in action.
