Complete unfired British 18 pounder shrapnel shell which is dated September 1915 on the case and yellow stripe found on The Somme battlefield of 1916-1918
This is a nice find from the battlefield a complete fired British 18 pounder shrapnel shell.The projectile which still has its yellow painted shrapnel stripe which has discolored it still has its brass driving band in place its nice brass colour the outer case is pitted and discolored but has some original black paint remains but with no holes or damage the fuse which is its shiny brass colour and screws in and out of the projectile perfectly with some of its maker markings that can be seen and screws in and out perfectly. The brass shell case is its nice brass shiny colour but with some discolored and all of its markings and dated September 1915 the projectile and case is completely empty and inert it has been well cleaned and overall perfect condition for display and a nice example for any collection and being 15 dated properly used in the famous Somme attack in July 1916. The shell was found on The Somme battlefield of 1916-1918 and comes with an A5 laminated information card.
