This is a Carl Zeiss Rhihenbildner RB 50/30 camera film magazine from a Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6/R2 reconnaissance aircraft, Work number 230319, piloted by Oberfeldwebel Manfred Blank. The aircraft was shot down on February 17th, 1945, the first day of Operation Southwind, by a Soviet Lavochkin LA-5 fighter.
The plane was later recovered, and the camera and film magazine were carefully examined by the Association for Aerial Cartography and Remote Sensing (ACRSA). A detailed report, including many photographs, is available online by searching for ACRSA Messerschmitt.
The film magazine is in good, solid condition, showcasing remarkable original paintwork. The identification tag remains attached, and even the small spirit level bubble is still functional! The film metre dial is broken but remains readable.
