The American B‑17G “Bull Session” (serial 43‑38911) was a 91st Bomb Group aircraft lost to flak over Cologne on 14 January 1945, with only one crew member surviving. The aircraft flew 18 missions as part of the Eighth Air Force’s strategic bombing campaign.
During a mission from England to Cologne, the aircraft received a direct flak hit to the nose section, causing a catastrophic explosion that blew off the forward fuselage and sent the aircraft into an uncontrollable vertical dive. Witnesses reported no visible smoke or flames, and most saw no parachutes, though one crewman was observed descending by chute.
