British Brodie helmet dated 1939. Recovered from a battlefield on the outskirts of Cassel, a town in the Dunkirk pocket of 1940. It would have belonged to a soldier from “Somerforce” a mixed force including the 2nd Glosters and the 4th Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry that defended Cassel May 25th – 30th 1940 as part of the defence screen around Dunkirk during the evacuation.
The helmet although rusty is solid with one chinstrap lug missing.
A great addition to a Dunkirk collection!
