This is a British 1930’s made Petroleum spirit or oil transfer can which is in semi relic condition lightly rusty all over but with no rust holes that can be seen and has its brass screw top which has stuck on and does not move properly would with more cleaning. The can has lots of original colour and still with all maker markings all can be seen nice and clear it has been very well cleaned it is very solid not braking up or falling apart a nice example of this can battlefield recovered. This fuel can was recovered from the battlefield near the town of Cassel. From the Dunkirk pocket of the 27th until 30th of May 1940, part of the perimeter around the port during the evacuation of May-June 1940.
In May 1940 during the battle of France the 2nd Battalion, Gloucestershire and the 4th Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry held Cassel for three days as part of the defensive screen around Dunkirk during the Battle of Dunkirk and evacuation from the 27 May 1940 to the 30 May 1940.
