This is a British 18 pounder shell base transit clip which was fitted to the base of the shell its self as it was shipped from the factory's to the front. The shell transit clip is complete and in very nice condition still with its original maker markings and its original black paintwork and red shrapnel stripe it has been very well cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection and rare to find in this good a condition from the battlefield.
This cover were recovered many years ago on the Somme battlefield 1916-1918.
