Fantastic condition Battle-damaged German 3.7cm flak shell case fired by Flak 18/36/37 Anti-aircraft gun with all markings, dated 1943 recovered from the River Rhine near Remagen
This is a Battle-damaged German 3.7cm flak shell case dated 1943 with all maker markings fired by Flak 18/36/37 Anti-aircraft gun the 9th Panzer Division. The case is steel made it is in relic but solid condition and not complete the markings can be clearly seen on the bottom of the case. The shell case have ripped and bent by the force of the explosion with many jagged edges the rare bit it still has remains of its original brass wash the case has been very well cleaned and are perfect to display or and a rare one for any collection to get a near fully marked 3.7cm case from the battlefield and the case with such damage it is empty and inert. This shell case was recovered from the River Rhine near the Town of Bad Honnef this area was attacked by them on the 11th March 1945 during the German counterattack against the American 311th Regiment to try and re capture the Ludendorff Bridge in Remagen which had been captured 4 days early. A nice relic from the Normandy battlefield. The case comes with 2x A5 laminated information cards with map.
The 9th Panzer Division was a Panzer Division of the Wehrmacht that was badly destroyed in Russia. Returning to France to rebuild in 1944, the division was rushed to counter Operation Overlord. It was destroyed several successive times by British and American forces as the German Army was pushed back across Europe. The division suffered massive casualties in armor and personnel until it finally collapsed in March 1945. The division's few survivors were pushed into the Ruhr pocket where they surrendered to the Allies at the end of the war.
