This is a battle-damaged German 3.7cm Flak 18/36/37 anti-aircraft gun ammunition tray. The tray is incomplete and in relic condition, having been ripped and bent by an explosion. Despite the battle damage, it remains very solid, with no rust holes or severe structural damage. It has some rust but is not breaking up or falling apart.
The tray still shows a significant amount of its original colour and paintwork, although it does not retain any original markings. It has been carefully cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection. An unusual battlefield find, the tray was recovered from a lake east of Bastogne in the Ardennes Forest, used as a dump site for battlefield clearance following the Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944-45.
This area was attacked by the German 26th Volksgrenadier Division and elements of the Panzer Lehr Division, who had the only anti-aircraft guns in the vicinity. The tray comes with an A5 laminated information card.
