This is Cockpit switch a lighting rheostat for diming lights in the cockpit which is fairly complete with clear to see maker markings.
The switch which is pretty much complete other than missing some of its back components but the main front section is still there which still has a lot of the markings on the face are clear to see still with its handle attached, the bakerite part has a bit of damage from being buried but nothing to bad it was damaged by the impact of the crash but it is in nice solid condition it has been very nicely cleaned with lots of original colours and is perfect for display or any collection the part is 2 half inches wide in size.The switch comes from the cockpit of German Dornier Do17 bomber of KG76 work number 2596 that was shot down by RAF spitfires of 602 squadron. The bomber crashed at Sundridge near Sevenoaks in Kent at 6.00pm on the 7th September 1940 during the Battle of Britain.The switch comes with 2 A5 laminated information cards with pictures and diagrams.
This bomber was on a photo-reconnaissance mission over the London Docks. It was attacked by pilot officer E.W Aries of 602 squadron also by Flying Officer G.C Peters of 79 squadron. The bomber spiralled out of control and collided with RAF Hurricane of 234 squadron.
The crew of the Dornier were Leutnant G.Schneider, Unteroffizier W.Rupprecht and Oberfeldwebel K.Schneider were all killed and Feldwebel E.Rosche baled out and was captured lightly wounded.
