Rare altimeter gauge made by R.Fuess 1938 model from cockpit dashboard recovered from the wreck of an abandoned JU52 near the old German airfield at Voroponovo in Stalingrad
This is an Altimeter [ Hohenmesser ] Fl.22316-10 gauge made by R.Fuess 1938 model from the cockpit dashboard of a German Junkers JU52 transport plane. The gauge which is pretty much complete other than missing its glass cover it still has a lot of the markings on the face are clear to see but not all. On the back it is maker marked with part numbers the bakerite outer case has a large crack in the side and bit of other damage nothing to bad it was damaged by the impact of the crash it is in nice solid condition it has been very nicely cleaned with lots of original colours and is perfect for display or any collection the part is 10 inches long by 4 inches wide in size. The panel was recovered from the wreck of an abandoned JU52 which is near the old German airfield at Voroponovo which was in the 6th Army pocket during the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942-1943. The part comes with 2 x A5 laminated information sheets.
After the 6th army was in circled the Germans hurriedly prepared the Tatsinskaya airfields (capacity of up to 600 Ju 5000 and Ju86 aircraft - 11 groups) and Morozovsk (capacity of up to 400 aircraft) as the main supply bases for encircled troops, and Chernyshkovsky, Kotelnikovo, Zimovniki and Salsk aerodromes as auxiliary. Inside the encirclement ring for the reception of transport aircraft, the German command used 5 airfields (B.Rososhka, Basargino, Kennel, Gumrak, Voroponovo), which had up to 20 Bf 109 fighters raised for the transport crews.
