This is a nice part from an usual aircraft to get parts from.This is a panel which there is not much paintwork left it has been mostly burnt off in the fire when the aircraft crashed and has clear to see damage from the fire the panel has ripped and bent by the impact of the crash it has been very nicely cleaned and still retains a bit of its original colour and is a nice size at 8 inches long by 4 inches wide. It is very solid not braking up or falling apart perfect for display or any collection.
The panel is from German Heinkel He 219 Uhu ("Eagle owl") G9+FL night fighter which was shot down by RAF Spitfire on Sunday 21st May 1944 over Denmark. The part comes with 2 x A5 laminated information sheets with crash pictures.
Two RAF Mosquitos of 418 Squadron RCAF and 8 Mustang fighters of 19 Squadron were on a Day Ranger mission over Denmark when they spotted what they believed to be a Leo 45 in the Herning area. It actually was the He 219 flown by Unteroffizier Ewald Tampke and Bordfunker Eduard Tants, who were engaged in a Zieldarstellungsflug (target presentation flight) together with another Heinkel. The Luftwaffe Heinkel 219 was set afire by Flight Lieutenant James Kerr of 418 Squadron RCAF (flying a Mosquito FB.VI from RAF Coltishall) and by W/O M.H. Max Bell (RAAF) of 19 Squadron RAF (flying a Mustang Mk III from RAF Coltishall).Tampke and Tants were laid to rest in Esbjerg cemetery on the 23rd of May.
