This is a rare to get larger size engine part from an RAF Spitfire that there is very little around as it crashed in to the sea. This is a near complete air filter from inside the merlin engine of a RAF Spitfire and has been well cleaned and is 9 inches long by 6 inches wide in size. The part still retains most of its original colours with only a very light amount of surface rust in places even still with some original paintwork. The part does not have any damage from the impact of the crash it is dented and smashed at bit from the impact of the crash but was well protected by the engine and lovely condition part is very solid not braking up at all and has been very nicely cleaned and is perfect for display or any collection. This is a nice part and a rare one for the collection the engine part comes with 2 X A5 laminated information cards with picture of the pilot. This part was recovered in the 1970’s by diving enthusiasts and ended up in the Blake Hall airsceane Museum in Essex until it closed in 2007.

The spitfire of 610 squadron was in combat with 12 Messerschmitt BF109’S over New Romney when it was hit by cannon fire around the cockpit and fuel tank and was on fire when it was shot down and crashed into the sea just off the coast of Kent. The pilot E.Smith when he bailed out was rescued from the sea by motorboat and was taken to Dover hospital with burns.
