An original First World War British Army studio portrait photograph dating to the Great War period, circa 1914–1918.
The portrait depicts a young British soldier wearing the standard British Army Service Dress uniform and peaked Service Dress cap. The cap badge is visible but not sufficiently clear to identify the regiment with certainty, making this an excellent representative example of the British Army during the First World War.
The photograph remains housed within its wooden frame, retaining its original glass, backing board and original hanging cord. The construction, materials and overall presentation are entirely consistent with an authentic wartime display piece and appear to have remained together since the portrait was first framed over a century ago.
Studio portraits such as this were commonly commissioned before soldiers departed for active service or whilst home on leave, serving as treasured keepsakes for family members during the war. Today they remain highly collectible as personal reminders of the men who served during the Great War.
Presented in good original condition for its age.
The photograph displays well with some light age-related marks and minor surface wear consistent with its age. The original period wooden frame retains an attractive appearance but has age-related wear throughout, including several chips and areas of loss to the finish, most noticeably to the upper right corner, as shown in the photographs. The original backing board exhibits age-related staining and discolouration but retains its original hanging cord.
Please study the photographs carefully as they form an integral part of the description and condition report.
